Rayfield M. McGhee, Jr., is presently the managing member of McGhee & Associates LLC law firm and litigates civil and criminal matters in both the State and Federal Court System. Mr. McGhee has been involved in prosecuting personal injury, family, FINRA arbitration, and complex criminal matters.. Mr. McGhee represents corporations in contract and real estate conveyance transactions. Additionally, Mr. McGhee represents plaintiffs in workman’s compensation matters.
Mr. McGhee was formerly associated with the Public Defender's Office of Miami-Dade County, Florida, as an Assistant Public Defender. In the summer of 1987, Mr. McGhee left the Miami-Dade County Public Defender's Office, entering private practice and became a founding partner in the law firm of McGhee and McGhee. As a partner of McGhee and McGhee, Mr. McGhee served as outside legal counsel for the Resolution Trust Corporation on matters involving professional liability, insurance contracts and commercial real estate transactions. Mr. McGhee has also served as lead counsel in complex federal RICO prosecutions and in criminal death penalty cases. In addition to an extensive litigation practice, Mr. McGhee has also represented the Florida Department of Transportation as an expert on attorneys' fees in eminent domain proceedings.
Mr. McGhee is active in many civic, social and professional associations, having been appointed by the Florida Bar Board of Governors to the Third District Court of Appeals Judicial Nominating Committee where he served as Chair for 1995-1996 and currently serves as a member of the Eleventh Circuit Judicial Nominating Committee as a Florida Bar appointee by Governor Crist in 2008. He also serves on the Board of Directors of Camillus House, Inc., and the Board of Trustees of the Miami-Dade Public Law Library. Mr. McGhee serves as Chair of the One Hundred BlackMen of South Florida Inc., and Chair of the Board of Governors of the Bankers Club Of Miami. Mr. McGhee has been a member of the American Bar Association, the Miami-Dade County Bar Association and the National Bar Association and has served as a member of the Executive Committee of its Florida Chapter. Mr. McGhee is a past President of the Wilkie D. Ferguson Jr. Bar Association.
Mr. McGhee attended John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from the University of Florida, with a minor in public administration. Mr. McGhee is a 1982 graduate of the University of Florida Fredric G. Levin College of Law, Gainesville, Florida. While in law school, Mr. McGhee was a participant in an international studies program at St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University, Oxford, England. Mr. McGhee is admitted to the United States Supreme Court; the Supreme Court of Florida; the United States District Court for the Southern and Middle Districts.
